Elizabeth Shahenian is an American Armenian descent multidisciplinary painter who draws on the natural world for her subjects. Her style is a juxtaposition of bold colors and softer primaries, particularly effective with large canvas floral studies against a colored background. The rich tone from oil provides depth and symmetry on koi carp and water lily canvases which projects a striking realism with real impact. She manages to create an almost photographic quality to her Mare and Foal portraits that captures a tangible tenderness. All her artworks are one-off pieces rather than one of a series and all characterized by her distinctive brush stroke and use of colors and mixed media.
